If you aren't familiar with the term, the "Summer Slide" refers to the documented learning loss that happens when students are away from a structured learning environment for months at a time.
When the final school bell rings in June, it’s natural for kids (and parents) to think exclusively about pool days, sleeping in, and completely unplugging. But there is a common misconception that academic growth has to hit the "pause" button just because summer has arrived.
At the Delaware Afterschool Network (DEAN), we believe summer shouldn't be a gap in a child’s education—it should be a bridge.
